Dr Muriel Newman is the founder and Director of the New Zealand Centre for Political Research - a public policy think tank she established in 2005 after nine years as a Member of Parliament. Her background is in business and education. A former Chamber of Commerce President, she currently serves on the board of a children's trust. In the absence of any organised opposition to the campaign to give the Treaty of Waitangi constitutional status, she convened the Independent Constitutional Review. Their panel of experts have been consulting with New Zealanders and will present their report to the government later this year.
