Wellington born Carinnya Feaunati is of full Samoan descent and at 22 years of age is currently studying towards a Masters of Architecture Professional at Victoria University of Wellington. Alongside her academic commitments, Carinnya is a Student Co-ordinator for Te Ropu Awhina, a whanau based group that provides mentoring to first year Maori and Pacific Architecture and Design students at VUW. Ms Feaunati is also involved in the wider University community having served as vice-President of the VUW Pasifika Student Council in 2012. During her four years of study Carinnya has been awarded numerous scholarships including a Summer Research Scholarship for 2013 and also the Keystone Trust Study Award for the years 2010-2015. She will be directing her Master’s thesis on the improved construction and design for the wider pacific that is culturally and historically considerate.
